A typical question:
Hi am just learning the ins and outs of hosting and figuring out how I could set up a full out host program… (like go daddy or host papa or arvixe) I was wondering if cPanel works things like the front end website, and if it makes things automated so I create the plans and if someone orders a shared hosting service it will setup the account and everything, creating a login in the front end ect. for billing and stuff and is it just something you can setup by installing then creating your plans then it does the rest or no… Sorry these questions are a little dum I am totally new at this and am trying to teach myself some things.
Thanks
Will
Answer: Here is why many business owners are wrong about getting free web hosting. Free hosting will not be the right hosting for most people. Web hosting is one of the most critical thing for your online presence and can mean the success and failure for your business.
Before we answer your question, let us review the 7 things to look for in a good web hosting. An excellent hosting:
- has at least 30 days money back guarantee,
- gives more-than-enough storage,
- offers no limit on bandwidth,
- gives multiple add-on domains,
- has easy Site Builder,
- has Fantastico and QuickInstall to quickly install apps like WordPress, Joomla, Drupal, OSCommerce, ZenCart and more
- can be easily upgraded to VPS or one of their best dedicated server plans if and when your business require.
To answer your question, why not try Hostgator. If you are building your first website and needs a hosting plan, experts usually highly recommend going with Hostgator because they are the best cheap cpanel hosting around.

Who Should Not Try Hostgator
To be honest, no web hosting service is perfect. Drawback of Hostgator includes:
- No free domain name – but you can easily get a domain name from the best domain registrar such as Godaddy or Namecheap for $10 or less. Would you agree that a website is not complete without a domain name?
- You need to pay full price after your first invoice – well, they need to make money too and all the support and great service do come with a cost

cPanel: "cPanel is a Unix based web hosting control panel that provides a graphical interface and automation tools designed to simplify the process of hosting a web site. cPanel utilizes a 3 tier structure that provides capabilities for administrators, resellers, and end-user website owners to control the various aspects of website and server administration through a standard web browser.
In addition to the GUI, cPanel also has command line and API-based access that allows third party software vendors, web hosting organizations, and developers to automate standard system administration processes."

Not all Cpanels are the same, so whether you can do all the things you want will depend on exactly what is included in your Cpanel.
I have an ‘unlimited’ hosting package from WebHostingPad – I can add on domains/subdomains and set up CMS (WordPress etc) at the click of a couple of buttons, also configure multiple FTP accounts and multiple emails (including having a web based login for individual accounts).
This type of account works fine if you want to set up sites and emails for friends, but because you could theoretically access all their emails, I would opt for a proper ‘reseller’ account if this was what you were planning to do on a more professional basis.
I have seen other Cpanel accounts which do not have as many options, so not all Cpanels are the same. For instance, my Cpanel allows me to set up CRON jobs (so that I can auto-backup my site files), the Cpanel we used to have at work did not…
