A frequently-asked question:
Hi, I actually have expression web and already made an HTML document/site on it. How do I go about publishing it? I am not very familiar with Hosting, Domain, and webspaces. Can Someone tell me how to publish my site when I already have the documents made in HTML.
Thanks in advance.
Answer: This is quite a popular question. Free hosting will most probably never be the best hosting for most people. Web hosting is the heart of your web presence and can mean the success and failure for your business.
To answer your query, here are 7 factors to look for in a good web hosting. An excellent hosting:
- lets you try their service for free or at very low price,
- gives unlimited storage,
- offers unlimited bandwidth,
- gives unlimited add-on domains,
- has easy Site Builder,
- has Fantastico and QuickInstall to quickly install apps like WordPress, Joomla, Drupal, OSCommerce, ZenCart and more
- can be easily upgraded to VPS or one of their best dedicated server plans if and when your business require.
To answer your question, many experienced web developers suggest to try Hostgator. If you need an “unlimited” hosting plan, experts usually highly recommend going with Hostgator because they are the best cheap cpanel hosting around.
What if you find out that Hostgator sucks after you signed up with them? HG has 45 days, longer-than-industry-average money back guarantee so you have ample time to test them out. They are rated A+ by Better Business Bureau which shows their commitment to customer satisfaction. You also do not have to pay for the first month. You can just try their fully functional hosting service – you pay only $0.01 (you need to use the special coupon code). Do you know any other hosting company that can give you that kind of assurance? Anybody can grab an account from Hostgator for almost FREE.

Who Should Not Try Hostgator
To be honest, no web hosting service is perfect. Drawback of Hostgator includes:
- No free domain name – but you can easily get a domain name from the best domain registrar such as Godaddy or Namecheap for $10 or less. Would you agree that a website is not complete without a domain name?
- You need to pay full price after your first invoice – well, they need to make money too and all the support and great service do come with a cost
If you are still not sure if HG is right for you, or you have specific query about anything at all, try the Live Chat at HG. They are fast and knowledgeable. Just shoot them some questions before you decide.

Here is how I do it and how I also recommend doing it for my friends/clients
1) purchase your domain name at godaddy – this gives you complete DNS control
http://godaddy.com . Enter the domain you want, once you find one, you check out just like shopping online. You will need to create an account. And then your’re done! Make sure to save all emails from godaddy since some of them contain really important information.
2) choose a hosting company. Most hosting companies I have found are just about the same – not a lot of deltas in service, price, features, support, etc. So you can’t really lose as there are so many and they want to stay competitive with one another. The most popular are probably hostgator, inmotion, and startlogic. There are many many. Let’s say you go with hostgator.
For hosting plans, you want to probably choose the cheapest until you are more comfortable with hosting. Unless you plan to do something more complicated and host many domains, the simplest plan is probably best and you don’t need to worry much about disk space, bandwidth, # of domains, # of email accounts, etc. If you prepay a year, it is usually $4 to $8 a month. IF you go by month, it can be higher like $15 a month. That still is not that bad of a price. Once you pay for your site, you will get an activation email which will contain how to log in , how to ftp, and your nameservers
The most important pieces of info is your username, password, your "cpanel" URL (most hosting companies use cpanel), and your DNS servers (typically something like ns1.hostgator.com and ns2.hostgator.com)
This is my hostgator link

3) Go back to godaddy. Click on your domain and you will come to a management interface. Look for changing your DNS servers. I think the default is something like ns1.secureserver.net . This is godaddy’s parkedd DNS servers. You want to change them to the DNS servers in your activation email. as you do this you may get a warning like "If you do this, you may have interruption in web and email service" … etc… don’t worry about it. Your site is not up yet so you won’t have any interruption.
Now that your DNS servers have changed, people know where to find your website.
4) I would do a test first. Create a file called "index.html" and in it put "Hello World from me".
5) Ftp your files over to your hosting account. If you do not have an ftp client I recommend filezilla
http://filezilla-project.org/
You put your host, user, and pass in the top and when you connect, your local computer is on your left, your hosting server is on your right, and put the "index.html" file over into the public_html directory
6) load up your website in your browser http://[yourdomain/ and your "hello world from me" should show up
7) if that looks good, transfer your site over. and you’re’ done!
