A typical query:
I want to use godaddy’s email service but point my website to another host. The hosting has cpanel too. Please need urgent help. I understand a simple DNS change will screw everything up.
Answer: It is not your fault you got confused. Free hosting will not be the best hosting for aspiring website owner. Web hosting is one of the most critical thing for your online presence and can mean the success and failure for your business.
To answer your query, here are 7 things to look for in a good web hosting. An excellent hosting:
- has friendly Live Chat from the start,
- gives more-than-enough storage,
- offers no limit on bandwidth,
- gives multiple add-on domains,
- has easy Site Builder,
- has Fantastico and QuickInstall to quickly install apps like WordPress, Joomla, Drupal, OSCommerce, ZenCart and more
- can be easily upgraded to VPS or one of their cheap dedicated server plans if and when your business require.
Answering your question, 92% of Webmasters recommended to try Hostgator. If you need an “unlimited” hosting plan, experts usually highly recommend going with Hostgator because they are the best cheap cpanel hosting around.
What if you find out that Hostgator sucks after you signed up with them? HG has 45 days, longer-than-industry-average money back guarantee so you have ample time to test them out. They are rated A+ by Better Business Bureau which shows their commitment to customer satisfaction. You also do not have to pay for the first month. You can just try their fully functional hosting service – you pay only $0.01 (you need to use the special coupon code). Do you know any other hosting company that can give you that kind of assurance? Anybody can grab an account from Hostgator for almost FREE.

Who Should Not Try Hostgator
To be honest, no web hosting service is perfect. Drawback of Hostgator includes:
- No free domain name – but you can easily get a domain name from the best domain registrar such as Godaddy or Namecheap for $10 or less. Would you agree that a website is not complete without a domain name?
- You need to pay full price after your first invoice – well, they need to make money too and all the support and great service do come with a cost
If you are still not sure if HG is right for you, or you have specific query about anything at all, try the Live Chat at HG. They are fast and knowledgeable. Just shoot them some questions before you decide.

If you use nameserver it will bring BOTH the website AND the mail across. If you just change the A(Host) records to your host server IP address, your mail will remain with GoDaddy.
However, with cpanel hosting, you might have better control over your email – your choice…
The link below deals specifically with the difference bewteen A record update and nameserver update – hope it helps..

Im sorry that i can’t answer, i did just want to add something though, or just well… make you aware…
Did you know alot of people are leaving GoDaddy as their providers/host/domain name etc for a really good reason…
GoDaddy has already stated that they will be working with the Gov’t To enforce the new SOPA laws…
personally, (and i have already switched) would not go with GoDaddy anymore because of this…

Now to be a nice person and answer your question:
You want to change your NS (ns.somewebhost.com) record to point to your host, but have your MX record point to the GoDaddy MX servers.
Here is what you want for using the GoDaddy email:
————————————–
MX
10 @ smtp.secureserver.net.
50 @ mailstore1.secureserver.net.
————————————–
CNAME
mail —> pop.secureserver.net.
email —> email.secureserver.net.
————————————–
You can insert your own custom NS such as ns1.your-new-website-host.com
I encourage you to host outside of GoDaddy and also transfer your domain to a new provider such as NetFirms.
