A common question:
I saved a test file as a web page ( I am a teacher). On my desktop, I have the file document, and a folder with the files to support opening it. How would I publish it to a web page so my students could take the test online? Also, any free web sites you know that would allow me to do this? Thanks!!
Answer: It is not your fault you got confused. Free hosting will most probably never be the right hosting for most people. Web hosting is the heart of your business and can mean the success and failure for your business.
To answer your query, here are 7 things to look for in a good web hosting. An excellent hosting:

- gives more-than-enough webspace,
- offers no limit on bandwidth,
- gives unlimited add-on domains,
- has easy Site Builder,
- has Fantastico and QuickInstall to quickly install apps like WordPress, Joomla, Drupal, OSCommerce, ZenCart and more
- can be easily upgraded to VPS or one of their cheap dedicated server plans if and when your business require.

Who Should Not Try Hostgator
To be honest, no web hosting service is perfect. Drawback of Hostgator includes:
- No free domain name – but you can easily get a domain name from the best domain registrar such as Godaddy or Namecheap for $10 or less. Would you agree that a website is not complete without a domain name?
- You need to pay full price after your first invoice – well, they need to make money too and all the support and great service do come with a cost
If you are still not sure if HG is right for you, or you have specific query about anything at all, try the Live Chat at HG. They are fast and knowledgeable. Just shoot them some questions before you decide.

Afraid you need a domain and some web space. Generally your internet serviceprovider provides you with some free webspace. It may not be much but it would be enough to meet your needs.
Alternativly your school should have some webspace that you can upload to via ftp. Best ask the school techie.

YOu need to get some webspace and a domainname. Webspace can cost as low as $4/month and a domain name is about $15 per year.

well i_eat_paste01 is some what correct, but your school, or service provider like Yahoo can provide you with space free. Be careful with an application as you are describing there are a lot of security considerations you need to look into.
