A frequently-asked question:
I use hover as my domain host, where can I find my PHP version and mySQL
Answer: It is not your fault you got confused. Free hosting will most probably never be the right hosting for most. Web hosting is the heart of your business and can mean the life or death to your business.
Before we answer your question, let us review the 7 factors to look for in a good web hosting. An excellent hosting:
- lets you try their service for free or at very low price,
- gives more-than-enough diskspace,
- offers no limit on bandwidth,
- gives unlimited add-on domains,
- has friendly Site Builder,
- has Fantastico and QuickInstall to quickly install apps like WordPress, Joomla, Drupal, OSCommerce, ZenCart and more
- can be easily upgraded to VPS or one of their best dedicated server plans if and when your business require.
To answer your question, why not try Hostgator. If you need an “unlimited” hosting plan, experts usually highly recommend going with Hostgator because they are the best cheap cpanel hosting around.

Who Should Not Try Hostgator
To be honest, no web hosting service is perfect. Drawback of Hostgator includes:
- No free domain name – but you can easily get a domain name from the best domain registrar such as Godaddy or Namecheap for $10 or less. Would you agree that a website is not complete without a domain name?
- You need to pay full price after your first invoice – well, they need to make money too and all the support and great service do come with a cost
If you are still not sure if HG is right for you, or you have specific query about anything at all, try the Live Chat at HG. They are fast and knowledgeable. Just shoot them some questions before you decide.

I checked on the Hover site, and it looks to me like they just do domain registration, the domain can be used for any purpose, it is the hosting that dictates whether you will be able to use WordPress.
When you look around for hosting, ask the hosting service or check what they offer.
I use webhostingpad, which allows me to add as many WP or other CMS sites as I want on a single (inexpensive) hosting plan, via an application called softaculous (I think…) it’s included in the Cpanel, and is as easy as anything to use.
I wrote an article on the hosting services and domain registration services that I use – see below…

If you have cPanel as a control panel, it should be in the sidebar on the left, if nowhere in your panel, ask your host. mySQL is usually in your control panel aswell, you just create a database and connect it with your wordpress. OR if you have softaculous it can install it for you and save you time.

You have a domain name but only have an address. You still need to rent a place by getting a web host if you want a Self-Hosted WordPress.
If you already have a web host, then check with your web host provider to see if they have any 1-click or auto-install WordPress feature for your website. You can install WordPress by yourself if you want to:

The domain name gives the unique identity of your website. In order to run wordpress, you need to have a web hosting account to host your website. Your wordpress website will be installed in your host’s server. You can check the version of PHP and MySql in your cpanel. You can pick your domain host here:

I’m pretty sure that every domain can run wordpress. It’s just a question of installing it.
