A typical query:
Hi there. I just got assigned a sub domain for my own personal use. It runs on Cpanel and I have no idea what I’m doing. Could someone help me out?
Remember, I have no idea what I have to do to make the page. I know how to code pages, so that’s not a problem, but I don’t know how to use Cpanel.
Could someone run me through, step by step with what I do to make the website with Cpanel? Thanks.
Answer: This is quite a popular question. Free hosting will most probably never be the best hosting for aspiring website owner. Web hosting is one of the most critical thing for your online presence and can mean the life or death to your business.
To answer your query, here are 7 features to look for in a good web hosting. An excellent hosting:
- does not suspend accounts as easily,
- gives more-than-enough storage,
- offers unlimited bandwidth,
- gives multiple add-on domains,
- has friendly Site Builder,
- has Fantastico and QuickInstall to quickly install apps like WordPress, Joomla, Drupal, OSCommerce, ZenCart and more
- can be easily upgraded to VPS or one of their best dedicated server plans if and when your business require.

Who Should Not Try Hostgator
To be honest, no web hosting service is perfect. Drawback of Hostgator includes:
- No free domain name – but you can easily get a domain name from the best domain registrar such as Godaddy or Namecheap for $10 or less. Would you agree that a website is not complete without a domain name?
- You need to pay full price after your first invoice – well, they need to make money too and all the support and great service do come with a cost

cPanel isn’t website design software. cPanel is software that is used to manage your domain. cPanel includes a variety of software options, including a file manager (allowing you to upload and organize files on your server), database administration options, email administration options, etc.
Depending on your hosting provider, you might have the option to use a WYSIWYG editor that is provided in cPanel, but I know that many hosting providers (mine included) don’t allow that program, as it includes some security risks.
The best option is to use a program like FrontPage, Nvu, or Dreamweaver to design your site, and then use an FTP program to upload your site to your webspace.
It’s not really a cPanel issue. And uploading multiple files at a time is clunky in cPanel anyway, so you’ll want an FTP program anyway.
